Courses at DBleisure

If you're looking for a career in leisure, then look no further! Various courses are available at our centres throughout the year, including the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, STA (award or certificate in teaching swimming) and trainee assessor.

NPLQ Pool Lifeguard Qualification

​​​If you want to become a Pool Lifeguard, why not complete the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification lifeguard training course. NPLQ is the most recognised lifeguard training course in the UK, so let us help you get qualified and kick-start your leisure career!

​

Venue: Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre

Course dates and times: Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November 2024, 8am - 5pm

Exam date and time: Saturday 2 November 2024. Three hour exam - time to be confirmed

Cost: £280 (must be paid in full by Friday 25 October)

 

Lifeguard Course Prerequisites:

Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be 16 years old or above at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

​

• Jump/dive into deep water

• Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds

• Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water

• Tread water for 30 seconds

• Surface dive to the floor of the pool

• Climb out unaided without a ladder/steps and where the pool design permits.

STA Award in Teaching Swimming

The STA Award in Teaching Swimming is the perfect step to begin your exciting career as a swimming teacher and with no previous experience required, you can get started right away.

Venue: Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre

Course dates: Monday 28 October to Saturday 2 November 2024

Times: 9am - 5pm daily

Cost: £275

  • Qualify in 6 days

  • Recognised internationally, allowing you to take your swimming teaching career around the world

  • No prior experience or qualifications necessary

  • You will be able to gain employment as a swimming teacher, teaching non-swimmers to improver participants

  • You’ll be qualified to deliver up to the Goldfish stage of STA’s progressive International Learn to Swim Programme

  • Develops the vocational skills and technical knowledge of a qualified swimming teacher, allowing you to independently teach the essential swimming skills, water safety and all four key-strokes to adult and child participants.
